Weather: Drizzle at first but turned fine later.

Chelford – Alderley Edge Circular

I have saved this walk for public consumption. Anyone can follow the route using the OS app,

providing you have a registered account (Free) in future.

Travelling to the meeting point the heavens opened and it looked like it was going to be a wet one,

Cliff had threatened to stay in the car, however it subsided somewhat and we got our boots on.

Unfortunately it turned out the Mark was supposed to be leading but had to pull out, so we hastily drew up a route with the OS app (once we had a signal) and off we went.

The rain eased off and it turned into a fine day for walking, we stopped on ‘The Edge’ for lunch, with a fine view of the Cheshire Plains and you can now see the Woodford Housing development becoming a landmark.

On the way back we had a slight concern about crossing the bypass road, as it showed an Orange

dotted line (not green) however a quick chat with AI confirmed that this is a concessionary

footpath and is passable.

We had to double back a little at Warford Hall as the gate had been locked due to some major

renovations being done by some famous footballer and his wife.

Next week’s walk will be led by Russell, starting at The Sportsmans Arms, Hayfield, SK22 2LE, and I

intend to go up to Kinder Downfall and back down to the pub for approximately 1.30-2.00 pm.

Distance: 8.97 miles.

Difficulty: Moderate/one main climb.

Weather: Mostly Dry, forecast rain arrived at 12;30.

Walkers:  Mike Cassini, Mark Enright, Julian ‘Stinky’ Ross, Keith Webb, Simon Williams, Cliff Worthington.

Starting point: New Mills Leisure Centre, Hyde Bank Road, New Mills (SK22 4BP)

Starting time: 9.40am. Finishing time: 1.15pm.

 

A fair turnout of six walkers enjoyed good weather for most of the journey until passing by Swizzels on the way back, when the rain that was promised eventually came.

For the first time in a while we enjoyed the company of Julian or ‘Stinky ‘ new boy as his oldest friend Tom advised he should be called. Julian admitted it was the first time since returning from our Spanish adventure he had his boots on!

The walk through the Torrs and Peak Forest canal and into Lyme Park and back was enjoyable and we savoured good beer in the Masons Arms at the end – Cliff taking the Storm Brewing 4.7 daily special at £3 a pint.

 

Next week will meet at the Egerton Arms in Chelford SK11 9BB for a 9:40 start along a yet to be determined route……

NEW MILLS GOLF CLUB, MELLOR AND TOWNCLIFFE GOLF CLUB, LINNET CLOUGH ACTIVITY CENTRE, ROMAN LAKES, STRINES, PEAK FOREST CANAL, MOUSLEY BOTTOM, TORRS RIVERSIDE PARK

Distance: 9.7 miles.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Weather: Less warm than recently but still pleasant, 

Walkers , Mike Cassini, Mark Enright, Simon Williams, Cliff Worthington.

A number of injuries and absences cut our number to 4 to enjoy a pleasant walk that was enjoyed without any of the threatened rain. There are links to the walk existing in the Blog , the only incident was a young heron comfortably walking on the floor of the Peak Forest canal suggesting the canal  was possibly only 12 inches deep after the long dry summer. We easily made our eta at the Masons Arms of between 1 and 1:30 however Jock had already been and gone by the time we arrived.

As most of our party will not be available for the next walk and with continued absences, numbers may again be depleted. We are meeting again at the New Mills Leisure Centre for a 9:40 start to Lyme Park and Disley.
