I have saved this walk for public consumption. Anyone can follow the route using the OS app,
providing you have a registered account (Free) in future.
After quite a bit of plotting (the map kind) I finally managed to put the route down on paper in
some form so that we knew where we were going. Non of todays walkers were familiar enough
with the route to provide direction.
We managed to squeeze in to the free lay by outside the quarry and hit the Monsal Trail passing
the Mountain Bike Centre. The day was colder than forecast and in the valley it was quite chilly. We
passed the stepping stones without incident (the river was low) and arrived at Chee Dale, normally
we would have followed the river further round and headed up uphill from there but decided to
cut back to the Trail and proceed through the tunnel and pick up the route on the other side,
which also meant the climb was less steep. We stopped for pies at the top of the hill and then
followed the route, passing Blackwell Hall where there was an Honesty Box for Refreshments Jams
and Preserves.
En route to the pub we had to pass through Fivewells Farm which unfortunately had closed off the
footpath with a gate, which we had to negotiate. We met up with Jock at the Church Inn at Chelmorton and then picked up the route again through
Topley Quarry back to the cars. However the route down through the quarry was very overgrown,
damp, slippy and quite treacherous and took some time. Details of next week’s walk below, after the pictures.
Next week’s walk will be led by Russell, we will do a walk around Chinley, meeting on the bridge over the bypass SK23 6EJ at 9.40am, returning back to the Paper Mill Inn for refreshments at approximately 2.00pm
Happy Wandering!
