We had the strongest turnout for a while, a total of 9 intrepid walkers, to enjoy a nice leisurely stroll around Lyme Park, to break the New Year in.

This walk started as a re-run of a walk done previously, carfully anotated by Mr Hart, so we started at the car park and headed to the canal. Initially the going was good but it soon became clear the defrost we had encountered closer to home had not occurred fully in High Lane. The path

was extremely icy in places, the canal was still mostly frozen over. Arriving at Bridge 16 we crossed into Lyme park and headed toward the car park. It was decided that we should stop at the cafe and enjoy their covered seating area, where yet again, Stuart’s delicious pasties made an appearance.

We also discussed the remainder of the route which basically involved a trek into Disley, a pub stop and out again. The pub stop was voted out so a more circuitous route around the Gritstone Trail and

back via Red Lane was decided upon.

It was half way up toward the Cage that I realised I had left my Rucksack at the cafe and a short sprint/trot back meant that I had to cut short my walk and meet with the rest at the Main Entrance.

From there we followed the railway track, crossing in several places, back to the canal where we diverted off through a housing estate and onto the A6 and down to the Bulls Head for refreshments. Tom was already waiting there and Jock soon joined us.

Next week’s walk will be around Bollington, starting at the Recreation Ground Car Park, Bollington SK10 5JT – 9.40am, and finishing back at the Vale Pub approximately 1.30pm

Happy Wandering!
